The KUNSTSALON FRANKE gallery does not specialise in one period. It collects and exhibits works of art, drawings, paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 20th centuries, with 19th century paintings forming a strong proportion of its collection. However, it has a clear focus on the main representatives of German expressionism and impressionism such as Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth, Max Beckmann, Emil Nolde and August Macke, Franz Marc, E.L. Kirchner, M. Slevogt, Cuno Amiet and many others.
Dr Rolf Schenk, the managing director, is a graduate art historian and a board member of Deutschen Kunsthandel Verbandes e.V (DK: the German Art Dealers Association). With his wife Catherine Franke, an internationally reputed art dealer with many years of experience, they offer works which they acquire in keeping with their taste and high quality requirements. One of their most important principles is: ‘it is preferable to have a first-rate work by a lesser known artist, than a second-rate work by a popular master’.
KUNSTSALON FRANKE’s main business premises are located in central Munich in the Lehel district, centrally located between ‘Haus der Kunst’ and the Bavarian National Museum, in Wagmüllerstrasse 16, not far from the ‘Pinakotheken’. As the name suggests, visitors actually find an ‘art salon’ here, where customers and collectors can view, enjoy and purchase art from several centuries in a refined atmosphere (by prior appointment). KUNSTSALON FRANKE FINE ART GALLERY’s outlet premises are located in Hotel Mandarin Oriental, Neuturmstrasse 1, in one of the best hotels in Germany.
